Understanding and Ministering to Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Leaders: Michael and Carol VanHoosier
This workshop will teach participants about post traumatic stress and how the Welcome Home Initiative ministers to veterans and their families to provide healing. In a small group setting, participants will learn how to pray for healing of issues specifically related to post traumatic stress disorder.
Michael and Carol VanHoosier, active members of the OSL Richmond chapter, are trained, experienced Christian Healing Ministries volunteers. They also serve with Fr. Nigel Mumford in praying for veterans experiencing post traumatic stress. Michael is a retired Navy Captain and Vietnam veteran. From past experiences as a military family and from living overseas, Carol and Michael bring to this workshop a deep understanding of the stress of military service.
Praying with the Dying for God’s Ultimate Healing
Leader: June Young
Death is the ultimate healing. Each person approaches death in his/her own way. This workshop is designed to be interactive and focus on how each of us reacts to “dying”: with fear, peace, unresolved issues, acceptance and/or other emotions. We will explore the concept that God’s abiding love and grace is open to us and that the ultimate healing is being with Him when we accept His love. The session will include an overview of how we can pray with the dying.
June Young was a volunteer Lay Chaplain at Inova Alexandria Hospital for four years. During her time there she realized that the Lord was calling her to minister to the dying, even though she herself was afraid of death. Being obedient to the call, in 2005 she became a volunteer with Hospice of the Chesapeake. As a Patient Care Volunteer, she makes weekly visits to terminally ill patients’ homes. As a Vigil Volunteer, she can be called at any time to be with an actively dying patient.
For her work with the Hospice of the Chesapeake, June was selected as Volunteer of the Year from the Prince George’s Volunteer Center. She was also selected as the Daily Point of Light for November 6, 2008. June has been involved in the healing ministry and a member of OSL since 2000.
Disease, Drugs, Diet & Health Care
Leader: Dr. David MacDonald
Some diseases are the result of sin, poor health choices, or just bad genetics. The traditional approach of western medicine is to use medication to control the symptoms of illness. In contrast, Integrative Medicine considers nutritional and natural methods to treat illness and employs prescription medications only when necessary. This interactive session will address both the integrative approach towards health and the impact that the soul and spirit have on the body. The workshop goal is to plan a migration path towards wholeness which aligns your spirit, soul and body so you fulfill His purpose for your life … this is Wholeness.
David MacDonald, D.O. is a family physician and President of Liberty Health Group. As a former Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army, a Residency Director, and a physician in private practice, his perspective is from the front lines of health care.
Dr. MacDonald’s healthcare insights and solutions are based upon Biblical truths. His goal is to consider each individual as a unique creation and to help achieve Wholeness – alignment of the spirit, soul and body for God’s purposes for each person.
Stress Management
Leader: The Rev. Richard W. Kitz
During this workshop we will explore what it means for life to be full and balanced, discovering harmony of the “inner cadence of contentment” we feel when the “melody of life is in tune.” In this workshop we will discuss the signs of stress in one’s life and how one might find spiritual wholeness.
The Rev. Kitz is semi-retired and presently serves as interim pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Magnolia, NJ. He spent 37 years of his ministry at St. Mark’s, Oaklyn, NJ. He has been interested in Healing Ministry since seminary at the Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia. In the early 70’s he became a part of the Ecumenical Healing ministry of South Jersey. Rev. Kitz is a graduate of the Ace Tubb’s Institute for Pastoral Ministry through Princeton Seminary and served until recently as a volunteer chaplain at Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, NJ. He is presently one of the chaplains of the Good Shepherd Chapter of OSL in Oaklyn.

This formational, visual and contemplative workshop, based on the biblically-presented history of the Passion of Jesus Christ, intends to provide workshop participants with a personal and experiential opportunity to explore the events of Jesus’ Passion as these events have meaning and application to one’s journey in healing for the whole person.

Theophostic Introduction and Demonstration
Leader: Betsy Stalcup
This workshop is for those who wish to be introduced to Theophostic Prayer. Attendees will learn: the biblical foundation for Theophostic Ministry; the Theophostic principles of prayer ministry and how it differs from cognitive therapy, imagery and visualization; how Theophostic prayer ministry brings healing of emotional wounds, renewal of the mind and a greater intimacy with Jesus. At the end of the presentation, we will have a live demonstration of Theophostic Ministry so attendees will see the principles in action. Finally, as time permits, we will open the floor for questions and answers.
Betsy is the Associate Director of the Healing Center at the Church of the Apostles in Fairfax , VA. Under her guidance, more and more people from the community at large are coming to the Healing Center and experiencing wholeness, maturity and completeness in Christ. In 2008, Betsy was given a vision from the Lord for Healing Centers not just in local churches, but nationally and internationally. In obedience to that vision, she has already traveled to Pakistan where she trained over twenty missionaries and ministers from seven countries.
Betsy has been a student, instructor, recipient and facilitator of theophostic prayer since 2004.
